THE BASICS: SIUE volleyball continues its 2023 campaign across the river for an Ohio Valley Conference meeting with Lindenwood on Saturday, Sep. 23. SIUE is 6-6 overall and has taken five of its last six games.
LAST TIME OUT: SIUE finished 3-0 at the Purdue Fort Wayne Invitational, marking the first tournament since 2019 that the Cougars tallied three victories in a weekend. Sydney Hummert (MVP), Savannah Christian, and Julia Treichel were named to the All-Tournament Team. In the finale against Purdue Fort Wayne, SIUE picked up a season-high 63 kills while hitting at a season-best .317 clip.
NATIONAL RANKS: The Cougars rank 29th in the NCAA with 114 total blocks. SIUE ranks 51st with 555 total assists and its 595 kills rank 56th in the country.
DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Priscilla Jones was named the OVC Defensive Player of the Week on Sep. 18 after collecting 19 total blocks over three contests. The middle blocker began her weekend with three blocks in the win over Miami (Ohio) before tallying a career-high 11 blocks vs. Valparaiso. Her 11 blocks are tied for the third most block assists in program history and are tied for the seventh most single-game blocks in the NCAA this season. Her 48 total blocks this season lead the conference and rank 80th in the nation.
100 KILL CLUB: Three Cougars have registered over 100 kills this season: Priscilla Jones (117), Sydney Hummert (115), and Julia Treichel (104).
DIG IT: Freshman Abi Banitt's 158 digs this season ranks sixth in the conference. She has collected 10 or more in 10 of SIUE's 12 contests this season. Treichel is the only other Cougar to tally 100 or more digs this season with 120. The junior has five double-doubles this season.
OWNING THE NET: SIUE has picked up double-digit total blocks in eight contests this season, including a season-high 13 on two occasions. Priscilla Jones's 1.00 blocks per set leads the Cougars while Chelsey Abel ranks second on the squad with 33 total blocks.
SERVING UP ACES: Hummert's 20 service aces rank fifth in the OVC. She is averaging 0.44 aces per set.
AT CENTER COURT: Junior Alyse Drifka leads SIUE with 228 assists this season. Grace Beekman's 130 assists rank second on the team while her 5.91 assists per set lead the squad. Corinna Jones has dished out 119 assists this season, averaging 4.10 per set.
