EDWARDSVILLE, Ill.- The Cougars start the OVC Tournament taking on No. 2 Lindendwood Nov. 24 at 10:00 a.m. After regular season play the Cougars ranked seventh in the OVC securing their spot in the OVC Championship Tournament.
THE SERIES:
- SIUE and Lindenwood split a two-game series in regular season play (Oct. 4-5).
- The Cougars took the first game 3-1, this game featured 22 runs between both teams. In the first set the Cougars had the longest run, where SIUE had seven consecutive points.
- Lindenwood took the second game 3-2. This marked the Cougars seventh five set match of the season.
PLAYER TO WATCH:
- Nicole Medlin had a season single-game high hitting percentage (.609) off of 15 kills and 23 attempts the first time SIUE took on Lindenwood. Medlin is the only Cougar to hit over .600 all season.
BLOCK PARTY:
- Taya Nordmann the 6-2 middle recorded the second most total blocks (14) in the NCAA during a five set match against USI (Nov. 2). She trails Ellie Hamm from California who had 17 against Syracuse.
- Nordmann ranks 93rd in the NCAA in blocks per set (1.16) and 30th in the NCAA in total blocks (134) good for second in the OVC in both categories.
- Medlin ranks 47th in the NCAA for total blocks (47) good for fourth in the OVC.
- As a team the Cougars recorded the second highest season single-game high of 24 blocks in a five set match against USI (Nov. 2). This places the team behind California who had a single-game high of 27 blocks against Syracuse.
- SIUE ranks 27th in the NCAA for blocks per set (2.57) and third in the NCAA for team total block (313.5).
- The Cougars lead the OVC in both categories.
2024 TEAM LEADERS:
- Anisley Ranstead leads the team with 43 service aces good for second in the OVC and 51st in the NCAA.
- Sydney Hummert leads the team in kills per set (2.83), good for ninth in the OVC. She also leads the Cougars in points this season averaging 3.42 per set (356 total points ).
- Medlin leads the team in attack percentage at .319 off of 258 kills this season.
- Alyse Drifka leads the team in assists with an average of 4.97 per set (606assists) off of 122 sets played.
- Olivia Hogan leads the team in digs per set this season (2.68)
AT THE HELM: Head Coach
Kendall Paulus is in her 14th season with the Cougars and her eighth as head coach, with a career record of 100-119 Against conference opponents, she owns a 63-68 record.
PRESEASON HONORS: Hummert earned preseason OVC honors following her 2023 season, she led the Cougars with 315 kills, and 2.76 kills per set ranking 9th in the conference. She added 35 service aces, while recording 66 total blocks. Hummert locked away 793 total digs last season surpassing the 500 career marker.
