EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. - SIUE women's tennis improved to 3-0 in dual matches Saturday, dispatching visiting Bradley 6-1 at the Edwardsville Y Meyer Center.
Bradley dropped to 1-5.
"It's easy to see that we have raised our level each week," said SIUE Head Coach
Adam Albertsen.
The Cougars won the doubles point early and improved their record in doubles matches during dual matches to 7-0.
"We've stressed the importance of getting that doubles point and taking charge of matches," said Albertsen. "You're going to have so many 4-3 matches that can go either way throughout a season so we put a lot of emphasis on our doubles play in practice."
SIUE's singles play was equally as impressive.
Amelia Gorman finished first with a 6-0, 6-3 victory over Bradley's Mariia Pukhina at No. 4 singles. SIUE's
Jill Lambrechts topped Maria Bezmenova 6-1, 6-3 at No. 1 singles.
Margaux Guibal Britt provided the clinching point at No. 2 singles with a 6-3, 6-1 win over Anna Belogliadova.
Stefaniya Anikina and
Fabiola Perez also were straight sets winners for the Cougars.
Next up for the Cougars is a road trip to Wisconsin. SIUE faces Milwaukee next Saturday followed by St. Thomas (Minn.) in a neutral site match in Jackson, Wisconsin, on Sunday.
