Cougars Improve 4-0 With Win at Milwaukee

MILWAUKEE, Wis. - SIUE captured five singles wins, including two in three sets, and improved to a 4-0 record with a 5-2 triumph at Milwaukee.

The match was played at the Elite Sports Club - River Glen.

"This was a great way to start the weekend and pick up a really hard-earned win," said SIUE Head Coach Adam Albertsen. "Milwaukee jumped out and played extremely aggressive doubles. We had chances to pick up the point, but give credit to the Panthers."

JIll Lambrechts and Fabiola Perez collected the first singles wins of the day at No. 1 and No. 6 singles, respectively, and put the Cougars ahead for good.

"Rebounding in singles showed the toughness of our team. Jill and Fabi picking up quick points brought us some positive momentum," said Albertsen.

Jordan Schifano defeated Emilia Durska at No. 3 singles 6-4, 7-6 to put SIUE ahead 3-1.

"Jordan played with great focus and fight to rally in the tiebreak," Albertsen noted.

Amelia Gorman would put the Cougars in the team win column with her clinching victory over Laure Razet at No. 4 singles. She won 6-4, 2-6, 6-4.

"Mia did what Mia has done her entire time as a Cougar," said Albertsen, "She gathered the clinching win and played really well when it mattered."

SIUE's Stefaniya Anikina added the Cougars' final point as continued to be undefeated in singles in a 6-3, 6-7, 7-6 win over Sara Simonova at No. 5 singles.

"It was a great team victory today, and we look forward to getting back out there tomorrow vs St. Thomas."

The Cougars face St. Thomas in a 10 a.m. neutral-site match at Pleasant  Valley Tennis and Fitness Club in Jackson, Wisconsin.
