NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Fielding errors added up for SIUE softball Saturday in a doubleheader loss at Tennessee State.
The Cougars dropped game one 11-8 and 2-1 in the nightcap.
"We need to play clean defense if we expect to win," said SIUE Head Coach
Ben Sorden.
With four errors in game one and two more in game two, the Cougars were looking to push past the miscues.
"
Kelsey Ray was awesome in game two," said Sorden.
Ray did not allow an earned run in game two. She yielded three hits and struck out two. TSU's Reina Castillo outdueled Ray, allowing one run in the first inning and going six straight innings to hold on for her fifth win of the season.
In game one, SIUE's offense collected nine hits, including two each from
Paige Rocha,
Jenna Herron and
Emma Henderson.
Rocha's two-run single in the third inning lifted the Cougars with a five-run inning. The Tigers, however, scored multiple runs in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings while finishing with 14 hits.
SIUE dropped to 14-24 overall and 6-10 in the Ohio Valley Conference. Tennessee State is now 18-18 overall and 9-7 in the OVC.
The same two teams play once more Sunday in a 1 p.m. game at Tiger Field.
