NASHVILLE, Tenn. - SIUE softball scored twice in the top of the seventh inning Sunday, but the Cougars dropped the final game of a three-game series at Tennessee State 6-5.
"I like the fight that the team had at the end of the game," said SIUE Head Coach
Ben Sorden.
Harley Limberger and
Paige Rocha each had RBIs in the final inning.
The Cougars dropped to 14-26 overall and 6-12 in the Ohio Valley Conference. The Tigers moved to 20-18 and 11-7 in the OVC.
"I thought we played much better ball today," said Sorden. "Unfortunately, the ball didn't bounce our way."
SIUE finished with seven hits on the day with two each from
Grace Lueke and
Anna Henderson.
Emma Henderson also recorded two RBIs.
Onnika Spencer provided the big hit for Tennessee State, a three-run home run in the bottom of the seventh when the game was tied 3-3.
Reina Castillo held on for the pitching win for the Tigers.
Sydney Baalman took the loss for the Cougars in relief.
Next up for the Cougars is a Wednesday road game at Missouri. Game time is 5 p.m. SIUE will be home next weekend for a three-game series Saturday and Sunday against Southern Indiana.
