EVANSVILLE, Ind. - SIUE women's tennis locked up the No. 2 seed for the upcoming Ohio Valley Conference Tournament with a 6-1 victory Sunday at Southern Indiana.
The Cougars improved to 14-3 overall and 4-1 in the OVC with the victory at the USI Tennis Courts. Southern Indiana dropped to 7-10 overall and 3-2 in the OVC.
Next up for SIUE is Senior Day next Saturday when the Cougars welcome Western Illinois for a 1 p.m. match. The Cougars will honor seniors
Jill Lambrechts,
Fabiola Perez and
Jordan Schifano.
Sunday's win capped off a challenging weekend for the Cougars that included a home win Saturday against Eastern Illinois.
Perez and
Cydney Rogers got the Cougars started with a 6-4 No. 3 doubles win over Rachel McCorkle and Anais Negrail. SIUE's
Amelia Gorman and
Margaux Guibal Britt secured the doubles point with a 6-3 victory over Sofia Davidoff and Antonia Ferrarini at No. 1 doubles.
SIUE won four singles matches in straight sets with Rogers, Guibal Britt, Schifano and
Paula Guillen Cerver lifting the Cougars. Guillen Cerver's 6-4, 6-2 triumph at No. 6 singles over Madison Windham provided the match-winning point for SIUE.
The OVC Tournament, which will be held in St. Louis at the Dwight Davis Tennis Center, is set for April 19-21. As the No. 2 seed, SIUE faces the No. 7 (to be determined) on Friday, April 19th at noon.
