• This is the 13 all-time meeting between SIUE and Missouri State. The Bears have won the last three meetings in the series. SIUE's last win in the series was a 1-0 home victory in overtime at Korte Stadium during the 2015 season.
• SIUE scored six goals against Chicago State in its home opener Thursday. The last time SIUE scored six goals was in 2019 against Morehead State. The Cougars scored seven against Eastern Illinois in 2021.

Savannah DeFini scored a hat trick in the victory over Chicago State. SIUE's last hat trick was in 2016 by Avery Anderson.
• DeFini's back-to-back goals in the second half Thursday were among the fastest in the Division I era. She scored her goals 2 minutes, 37 second apart. The last time SIUE had back-to-back goals by the same person in less than three minutes was by Cassidy Sherman vs. IU Indy (8/30/13).
• This is the beginning of a road swing for the Cougars. SIUE next has nonconference road trips at Purdue Fort Wayne, and SIU Carbondale. SIUE plays Saint Louis Sept. 8 at CITYPARK, the home of St. Louis City SC. The only nonconference remaining home contests is Sept. 15 against Indiana State.

Ella Robinson, a freshman last season, scored SIUE's first goal last season.
• Defender
Matea Diekema is the Ohio Valley Conference's two-time Defender of the Year. Diekema, who led the team in shots last season with 26, loaded up on postseason accolades, including first team Academic All-America, All-South Region, OVC Scholar-Athlete Award and Scholar All-American. She scored her first goal of the season against Chicago State.

Sidney Christopher leads all active OVC players in assists with 12 and points with 28.
• The Cougars won back-to-back-to-back OVC Championships titles from 2020 to 2022. SIUE had its streak of four consecutive appearances in the OVC title game snapped when the team was eliminated on penalty kicks by Southeast Missouri.
• OVC postseason honors for the Cougars last season included first team for Diekema, second team for Christopher and
Taylor Babb on the All-Newcomer team.

Derek Burton is in his 17th season as the Cougars' head coach and started the season with a career record of 125-118-42. He has made five appearances in the NCAA Tournament with the Cougars. SIUE previously appeared in the NCAA Tournament in 2014, 2016, 2020, 2021 and 2022.
