Cross Country Concludes SEMO Redhawk Invite Friday

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. –SIUE men's and women's cross country kicked off their season on Friday evening with the Southeast Missouri Redhawk Invite Friday. The decision was made late Thursday to delay the meet by 30 minutes to help beat the heat.

The men's team started off placing sixth overall. Leading the pack was senior Tyler Guthrie, finishing ninth overall at 15:56.310.

Following Guthrie was Senior Jackson Edwards placing 21^st, at 16:24.784. Following Edwards was Cullen Kreig (35th / 6:53.496), Logan Luttrell (43rd / 17:08.041), D'Andrew Watson (50th / 17:25.785) and Jackson Edwards (21st / 16:24.784).

SIUE women's cross country finished fifth overall. This year's runner to watch Freshman Erica Woodard kicked off her first season with the cougars finishing in 10th, at 19:03.597. She had an average mile time of 7:37.20.

Senior Sophia Harrison followed Woodard placing 34, at 19:44.801. The cougars next runners were Mia Loafman (38th / 19:59.727), Ella Goodman (44th / 20:30.803), Kalei McDaniel (46th / 20:32.808), Ana Keller (47th , 20:36.654), Emilee Franklin (51th / 20:45.827), Courtney Anthonies (65th / 21:46.636), Megan Derrick (76th /23:25.581).

Up next the cougars head to Normal, Ill. For the Illinois State Redbird Invitational on Friday September, 13^th.
