ST. LOUIS - SIUE women's basketball showed a strong performance against Saint Louis University in last night's exhibition match.
"The cross-town over-the-bridge rival with Saint Louis is always a fun one to play," Head coach Samantha Quigley-Smith stated. "With our family, friends, and supporters coming out to see us compete, it was great to see our group against an opponent other than ourselves. We talked a lot about how last night was a small opportunity that leads to success in the future."
Several of the Cougars saw the court last night including freshman Laruen Miller, Sy'Rae Stemmons and Kiyoko Proctor, and transfers Adebukola Akomolafe and Adriana Blazquez.
"Last night showed how exciting and balanced this group can be," Smith said. "This is going to be a lot of fun and the emphasis on team basketball is going to be what we're all about."
The team was led by returning seniors Macy Silvey and Jaiden Bryant. Ava Gugliuzza and Rory Conboy also helped push the team's drive in the close match against the Billikens.
"Our local women and seniors in Macy Silvey and Jaiden Bryant played with a winning mindset, something we will need for their entire senior season," Coach Sam exclaimed.
Up next, the Cougars host Missouri Baptist at First Community Arena for their first home game. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. on Nov. 3.
