NEWTON, Kan. – SIUE golf posted a 287 (-1) in the final round to finish sixth at Wichita State's Grier Jones Invitational competed Tuesday at Sand Creek Station Golf Club.
The Cougars finished at 872 (+8) overall, one stroke back of fifth place and seven strokes shy of a top three finish.
Kansas City and St. Thomas each finished two-under to share the team title. Host Wichita State finished four shots back in fourth place.
Individually, Will Simpson and Tomas Rascon tied for 10th, each finishing at three-under. For Rascon, a freshman, it is the best finish and best 54-hole total of his career.
Brady Kaufmann finished in a tie for 22nd at two-over. Brent Reintjes finished six-over to tie for 45th. Max Bruening tied for 60th at nine-over. Preston Bily was 11-over and tied for 67th.
Parker Bruening, who also played as an individual, finished 13-over and tied for 77th.
Kansas City's Mason Haley put up back-to-back rounds of seven-under to win take home Individual Medalist honors at 13-under for the tournament.
The Cougars will break from competition for nearly a month, next hitting the course at Hawaii's Kapolei Invitational Nov. 5-6.
