Cougars Post Highly-Competitive Performance at ITA Conference Masters Championships

SAN DIEGO – The SIUE doubles team of Margaux Guibal Britt and Stefaniya Anikina made a strong showing at the 2025 ITA Conference Masters Championships.

The Cougars completed play Saturday at the Barnes Tennis Center with a 6-4, 6-0 loss to Colorado's Lera Alexin and Rixt Van Der Werff in the consolation bracket.

"The ITA Masters was an incredible experience for Stefaniya and Margaux," said SIUE Head Coach Adam Albertsen. "They competed with some of the best teams from each conference and really capitalized on a tremendous fall season as a doubles team. It will be exciting to see this team return to the courts in the spring and build off this momentum."

Guibal Britt and Anikina began the tournament Thursday on a high note, winning the first set of the opening round match against Stephen F. Austin's Ksenia Mamontova and Jemma Cave. SFA later would take the second set and outlast the Cougars in the third-set tiebreaker. The final scores were 6-7 (5-7), 6-4, 13-11.

On Friday, SIUE fought back and advanced in the consolation bracket with a win over North Carolina Central's Valeria San Miguel Soria and Sara Barbaric 6-4, 6-4.

As a team, SIUE's next action is the first dual match, a road matchup between the Cougars and Illinois-Springfield (Jan. 17)  followed by a road match at Valparaiso (Jan. 18).
