EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. – SIUE women's basketball claimed its seventh win of the season with an 83-36 victory over Harris-Stowe on Saturday.
The win marked just the third time in program history SIUE has recorded a margin of victory of 47 points.
The Cougars close out the preseason with a 7-3 record, their best start in the past 12 seasons. Harris Stowe fell to 2-6 overall.
Ava Gugliuzza led SIUE with 17 points, shooting 5-10 from three-point range, while adding seven rebounds. Gugliuzza knocked down the Cougars' first three-pointer of the second quarter with 5:45 remaining, extending SIUE's lead to 24-13.
Sy'Rae Stemmons added a career-high 13 points. She got her first points at the free-throw line in the third quarter before opening the fourth with back-to-back layups to push the Cougars' lead to 71-24.
SIUE had four players finish with seven rebounds including
Rory Conboy,
Adebukola Akomolafe,
Ava Gugliuzza and
Adriana Blazquez. Blazquez also led the team with six assists.
As a team, SIUE made 44.7 percent (34-76) of their shots from the field and 33.3 percent (9-27) from three-point range. They also had 17 points from turnover and posted a season-high of 52 rebounds.
