EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. – SIUE women's tennis closed out a successful weekend Sunday with a 4-0 triumph over visiting Missouri State at the Edwardsville Y Meyer Center.
The victory lifted SIUE's dual match record to 5-1 while Missouri State fell to 1-6. SIUE has a three-match winning streak.
SIUE continued its trend of grabbing the early momentum with a doubles point win. Amelia Gorman and Stefaniya Anikina teamed up at No. 1 singles for a 6-0 win over Elif Gunal and Billur Gonlusen. Payton Tomichek and Chloe Koons matched their teammates with a 6-1 win at No. 3 singles over Romy Pols and Lola Federski.
Anikina needed just more than an hour of No. 5 singles play to give SIUE a 2-0 lead with a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Pols.
Tomichek improved the Cougars' lead to 3-0 with a 6-2, 7-5 win at No. 3 singles over Sandra Lukacova.
Paige Duncan secured the SIUE team win at No. 4 singles, besting Raluca Puscas 6-3, 6-3.
Next up for SIUE women's tennis is a trip to Cedar Falls, Iowa. The Cougars have two matches slated for next weekend beginning with a neutral site match against St. Thomas (Minn.) at 10 a.m. Saturday followed by host Northern Iowa at 10 a.m. Sunday.
