DALLAS – SIUE baseball was swept by No. 20 Dallas Baptist in a Saturday doubleheader.
Dallas Baptist took the opener 14-2 and then won the nightcap 11-1. Both games lasted seven innings.
The Cougars are now 2-3 for the year. Dallas Baptist improved to 5-1.
DBU scored eight times on six hits and two errors in the first inning in the opener. The Patriots extended the lead to 9-0 with a run in the second inning.
SIUE starter Spencer Stearns (0-2) allowed the nine runs on eight hits. Only three of the runs were earned.
The Cougars pushed two across in the top of the 4th after loading the bases on two hits and a walk. Kyle Ratliff walked and forced home Chase Bloomer-who led off the inning with a double. Daniel Gierer brought in a second run with a sacrifice fly.
The Patriots added five runs in the fourth inning against SIUE reliever Joseph Martin, capped off by a three-run home run by Tom Poole.
Martin worked two innings. Kyle Rossy struck out two in an inning of work in his SIUE debut.
Bloomer and Ethan Willoughby each had two hits for the Cougars.
In game two, the Patriots scored four times in the second inning and five times in the fourth and another two in the sixth to go up 11-0.
The Cougars managed a run in the top of the seventh. Daniel Gierer singled to start the inning, advanced to second on a groundout and to third on a wild pitch. Lane Crowden grounded out, driving home Gierer with SIUE's lone run.
Tim Teixeira (0-1) allowed eight runs on seven hits. He struck out two.
SIUE finished with four hits in game two. Bloomer, Willoughby, Ratliff and Gierer each had a hit for the Cougars.
The series finale is set for Sunday
