PEKIN, Ill. -
Amelia Gorman came back from a set down Saturday to win her No. 1 singles match and clinch a 5-2 victory for SIUE women's tennis at Bradley.
Playing at the Parkside Fitness Center, the Cougars improved to 3-1 for the season while Bradley dropped to 1-2.
SIUE grabbed a crucial team point early by winning the doubles point. After accepting a forfeit at No. 3 doubles, the duo of Gorman and
Cydney Rogers overpowered Bradley's Mariia Pukhina and Ruby Tseng 6-0.
Gorman and Rogers, the two-time Ohio Valley Conference Doubles Team of the Week, have now won all four of its doubles matches in dual match play this season.
With
Chloe Koons accepting a singles forfeit from Bradley at No. 6 singles, SIUE's
Paige Duncan made it 3-0 with a straight sets victory of 6-3, 6-1 over Madi Rogers at No. 4 singles.
Bradley would be able to put two points on the board before Gorman charged back at No. 1 singles. She dropped the opening set 6-4 to Anna Belogliadova but went perfect in the second set 6-0 before outlasting her opponent 7-6 in the final set. It was Gorman's 10th singles victory of the season.
Stefaniya Anikina closed out the match with a 6-2, 6-2 win at No. 5 singles over Compassion Tsai.
SIUE now returns home for a Feb. 14 match against Maryville at the Edwardsville Y Meyer Center.
