BRENTWOOD, Tenn. – Following a dominant start Saturday, SIUE redshirt sophomore Spencer Stearns has been named the Ohio Valley Conference Pitcher of the Week.
In the second game of a three-game OVC series against Morehead State, Stearns threw a career-high eight innings and allowed a single hit, a solo home run in the third inning. He walked one and struck out a career-best 12 hitters.
The native of Edwardsville is tied for the team lead with 27 strikeouts coming in 23 innings pitched. He is second on the team with two wins.
SIUE baseball swept the three-game series to open OVC play at 3-0. The Cougars will face Illinois State Wednesday at Simmons Baseball Complex before going on the road for a three-game OVC weekend series at Tennessee Tech.
