LAST WEEK: SIUE split a four-game week, falling to Illinois State before taking two of three in a weekend series at Tennessee Tech.
FIRST PLACE: After two weekends, SIUE sits in first place in the Ohio Valley Conference at 5-1.
SERIES STUFF: Indiana State leads the all-time series 7-4. SIUE is 3-2 in home games in the series. This marks the first time the two teams have played since 2015 in Terre Haute, Indiana.
VS. MVC: This is the fourth midweek game the Cougars have seen a Missouri Valley team. SIUE is 3-3 against teams from the MVC this year, splitting two games with Illinois State and defeating Evansville during the midweek. The Cougars won one of three in a weekend series at Missouri State. SIUE is still schedule to play at Bradley and play a home and home series with SIU Carbondale.
PITCHER OF THE WEEK: Spencer Stearns earned Pitcher of the Week honors in the OVC March 24 after an eight-inning gem against Morehead State last Saturday. He pitched a career-high eight innings and racked up 12 strikeouts, also a career high.
STREAKING: Mack Mitchell has reached base in 19 consecutive games. Ryan Niedzwiedz has reached safely in 10 straight games. Mithell has a three-game hitting streak, as does Joshua Heyder and John Stallcup.
LEADERS AT THE PLATE: Mitchell is the OVC leader in runs scored per game at 1.21. Chase Bloomer is third at 1.08. Mitchell (9) and Bloomer (8) are second and third, respectively, in the OVC in home runs. They both rank in the top 10 in RBIs per game in the league. Daniel Gierer has 14 stolen bases, which ranks second in the league.
LEADERS ON THE MOUND: Starter Tim Teixeira leads the league in strikeouts per nine innings at 10.74. He leads the team with 35 total strikeouts. Liam McKillop is tied for second in the league with 12 appearances. Tyler Davis leads the team in wins with three, which is tied for sixth in the league. He also has a pair of saves.
GOOD HANDS: SIUE is tied for fourth in the league with a .967 fielding percentage. Three teams are tied for the lead at .970. The Cougars have committed the fewest errors in the league at 23.
THE SKIPPER: Sean Lyons is in his ninth season as SIUE's head coach. His overall record is 174-236.
