CHARLESTON, Ill. - Eastern Illinois won a pair of three-set matches late to defeat SIUE women's tennis 4-3 at the Charleston High School Tennis Courts.
The match marks the end of the regular season for both squads. SIUE heads into next week's Ohio Valley Conference Tournament with a 13-6 record and a 3-3 mark in OVC play. Eastern Illinois concludes the regular season with a 6-16 record and a 3-3 mark in the OVC. The OVC Tournament will be played at the Dwight Davis Tennis Center April 17-19 in St. Louis.
SIUE walked away with the doubles point as the teams of
Margaux Guibal Britt and
Payton Tomichek as well as
Chloe Koons and
Paige Duncan each won doubles matches 6-2.
Chloe Koons ran her season record to 18-5 with a 6-0, 6-0 win over EIU's Emma Pilipovic-Kljajic.Â
Stefaniya Anikina also continued to be perfect at 13-0 with a 6-1, 6-2 win at No. 4 singles over the Panthers' Michelle Kostadinova.
The match came down to a pair of three-set matches as EIU's Angela Wooten bested
Amelia Gorman at No. 1 singles while EIU's Charleigh Fay added a three-set victory over Tomichek at No. 3 singles.
