EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. -
Amelia Gorman provided the match-clinching point Thursday as fourth-seeded SIUE defeated fifth-seeded Lindenwood 4-1 in the quarterfinals of the Ohio Valley Conference Tournament.
Gorman, the OVC's Player of the Year, pulled out the victory for the Cougars with a 6-1, 7-5 triumph over Fabiana Labrador.
The Cougars now move on to face top-seeded Southeast Missouri in the semifinals. Match time is 10 a.m. Friday at the Dwight Davis Tennis Center, pending favorable weather conditions. SEMO bested Tennessee State 4-0 in the quarterfinals. This is a rematch of the 2024 OVC Tournament championship match.
SIUE and Lindenwood faced off Thursday at the indoor tennis facility at the Edwardsville Y Meyer Center after tournament officials deemed the weather to be an issue to play outdoors at the Dwight Davis Tennis Center.
Winning four singles matches Friday, SIUE surged after dropping the doubles point to the Lions.
Peyton Tomichek led the charge with a 6-0, 6-1 victory over Michelle Trochez at No. 3 singles.
Stefaniya Anikina, a second team All-OVC selection, continued to go undefeated in singles this season with a 6-0, 6-0 No. 4 singles win over Paola Garcia.
Paige Duncan made it 3-1 at No. 5 singles with a 6-4, 6-1 victory over Sarah Ben Aba.
