• This is the sixth all-time meeting between the Cougars of SIUE and the Cougars of Chicago State. All five previous meetings have resulted in SIUE victories. SIUE won last season's matchup 6-1 at Korte Stadium. SIUE has wins in Chicago in 2015 (7-0) and 2018 (6-1).
• SIUE is 25-15-4 all-time in season openers after winning its season opener 2-1 Thursday at IU Indy. SIUE's previous win in a season opener was a 2-1 victory over Indiana State in 2022.
• Freshman Alayna Hauser scored the first goal of the season for the Cougars during the first half of Thursday's victory. She joins MaryClaire Imig as players who scored in their first collegiate game. Imig scored in last season's opener against Omaha.
• This is the 18th season for Head Coach Derek Burton, who took over the SIUE women's soccer program when it jumped to the Division I level before the 2008 season. Burton has led SIUE to five Ohio Valley Conference titles and five NCAA Tournament appearances (2014, 2016, 2020, 2021 and 2022).
• Savannah DeFini, who returns as the team's top scorer with five goals and three assists last season, scored the game-winning goal at IU Indy. Her goal came just 36 seconds after IU Indy had tied the game at 1-1.
• Sarah Bozeman recorded a win in her first appearance in goal for the Cougars. Bozeman, a transfer from Memphis, played all 90 minutes and recorded five saves against the Jaguars.
• SIUE begins a three-game homestand next Thursday at 5 p.m. with Omaha at Korte Stadium.
