MADISON, Ill. – SIUE golf made a push Tuesday and finished third at the SIUE Dolenc Invitational at Gateway National Golf Links.
The Cougars moved up two spots with a 280 in Tuesday's final round SIUE finished at 836 (-16). Idaho (-31) won the event for the second time, having also won in 2022. Morehead State (-19) finished second.
Individually for the Cougars, Will Simpson and Brady Kaufmann tied for 15th at 209 (-4). Brent Reintjes and Preston Bily tied for 29th at 212 (-1). Tomas Rascon tied for 51st at 216.
SIUE also entered a B team in the tournament for the first time, led by Max Bruening who fired a career-best 65 in Tuesday's final round. Bruening tied for 23rd overall. Parker Bruening tied for 51st at 216 (+3). Jake Guse finished at 221 (+8) to tie for 75th. Hayden Moore tied for 96th and Thomas Hereau tied for 100th.
Idaho's Samuel Johnson and Weber State's Matthew Wilson both finished 14 under and were declared co-champions after two playoff holes.
SIUE has a quick turnaround and will play at Wichita State's Grier Jones Invitational Sun.-Tues.
