MARTIN, Tenn. – SIUE women's basketball fell 64-55 to UT Martin in a decisive fourth quarter. SIUE (8-9, 1-6 OVC) cut into UT Martin's (8-8, 4-3 OVC) lead early in the second quarter, but the Skyhawks outscored the Cougars 29-12 in the final period to secure their win.
Syanne Mohamed led SIUE with 17 points on 8-of-11 shooting from the field and added eight rebounds.
Macy Silvey scored 11 points, while
Kiyoko Proctor chipped in 10 and
Lauren Miller had nine points with six assists. SIUE shot 39 percent from the field and made six three-pointers through the game.
Adriana Blazquez and
Sy'Rae Stemmons each made their first start of the season for SIUE. Blazquez provided a strong presence in the paint, pulling down four rebounds, while Stemmons added energy to the adjusted lineup.
The Cougars trailed by four at halftime but rallied in the third quarter to narrow the margin. However, UT Martin's balanced attack and strong free-throw shooting in the fourth helped the Skyhawks pull away.
