Cougars Look to Build Momentum Against UT Martin

2025-26 TEAM NOTES
  • SIUE had its fourth conference win of the season against SEMO Thursday in First Community Arena. 
  • Five Cougars scored in double figures against the Redhawks: Kiyoko Proctor (18), Lauren Miller (15), Syanne Mohamed (12), Macy Silvey (12), Ava Gugliuzza (10). 
  • This is the first time five Cougars have been in double figures for a single game since the 2021 season when they played Western Illinois Dec. 7. 
  • The Cougars previously lost to UT Martin Jan. 15 on the road 64-55. 
  • Against Lindenwood (Feb. 3), four Cougars scored in double figure: Proctor (16), Gugliuzza (12), Adebukola Akomolafe (13) and Miller (11). 
  • SIUE led by 29 at halftime against TSU (Jan. 22), its largest halftime lead since moving to DI in 2008.
  • The last time the Cougars held a 25+ point halftime lead was in 2011 vs. Jacksonville State (27 points). 
  • SIUE had its first OVC win of the season after a double-overtime battle with EIU (Dec. 19). 
  • This game marked the team's first double-overtime win since the 2006-07 season, when the Cougars defeated Southern Indiana 81-75.
  • The Cougars are 30-16 all-time in overtime games. 
  • Seven of those contests have gone to double overtime, with the Cougars winning five. 
  • The Cougars had a pair of OVC wins at home against Tennessee State (Jan. 22) and Tennessee Tech (Jan. 24). 
  • Assistant coach Liz Doran served as the acting head coach against Southern Indiana (Jan.1) and Morehead State (Jan. 3) while head coach Sam Quigley-Smith welcomed her fifth child, Louis "Louie" Smith. 
  • The team is averaging 37.1 rebounds and has a +2.9 margin which is fourth in the OVC.
  • The Cougars are fourth in the OVC in defensive rebounds per game (26.1). 
  • They are second in the OVC for scoring defense (60.4), placing 91st nationally. 
  • SIUE is third in three-point attempts per game (21.7) and fourth in three-pointers per game (6.8).
  • They had a season-high 52 rebounds in the win over Harris-Stowe.
  • The win marked just the third time in program history SIUE has recorded a margin of victory of 47 points.
  • The Cougars closed out the nonconference schedule with a 7-3 record, their best start in the past 12 seasons. 
  • The Cougars held Calumet College to seven points in the first half of the game on Dec. 4. 
  • They also had a season-high 16 steals against the Crimson Wave. 
  • The Cougars had a season high 96 points against Missouri Baptist (Nov. 3).
  • SIUE had a single game high field goal percentage of .521 (25-48)against Tennessee Tech (Jan. 24). 
2025-26 Player Notes
Lauren Miller
  • Miller is second on the team in scoring at 12.2 points per game, good for 16th in the OVC. 
  • Miller is 13th in the OVC in assists per game (2.60).
  • Miller has been OVC Freshman of the week five times this year with her most recent on Jan. 27. 
  • She has received this award four other times this season, Nov. 11, Nov. 25, Dec. 30 and Jan. 13. 
  • She is the first in women's basketball program history to receive the award more than four times in a single season. 
  • Miller had 21 points at Western Illinois, marking her third 20-point game of the season. 
  • She had career-highs of 25 points and nine rebounds against EKU (Nov. 7). 
  • Miller leads the team in field goals made per game (4.4).
  • She is fifth in the OVC for free throw attempts (115). 

Kiyoko Proctor
  • Proctor leads the team in scoring at 12.4, ranking 14th in the OVC. 
  • The last time a freshman led the Cougars in scoring was in the 2010-11 season, Jazmin Hill averaged 12.9 points per game.
  • She leads the team in field goal attempts per game (10.9). 
  • Proctor was named OVC Freshman of the week Dec. 2.
  • Proctor is eighth in the OVC in free throw percentage (79.3).
  • She has been the scoring leader for 10 games this season with a career high of 26 points against Indiana State (Nov.19). 
  • Proctor leads the team with 19 games scoring in double digits this season. 
  • Proctor had a career-high of six rebounds against Morehead State (Jan. 3). 
  • She had a career-high six steals against SEMO Feb. 12. 
  • This was her fifth game with three or more steals. 
  • She leads the team in steals at 1.5 per game, and is tied for 12th in the OVC. 
  • She is ninth in the OVC for three-point field goals made (1.67).

Macy Silvey
  • Macy Silvey has made 226 three-pointers in her career, ranking second in the program's all-time history, but first in SIUE's DI era. 
  • She follows Whitney Sykes who had 277 three-pointers from 2004-08. 
  • She is only 14 points away from hitting 1,000 career points. 
  • Silvey has 238 points on the season. The most points she has had in a season was 294 during her sophomore year (2023-24). 
  • Silvey leads the OVC in three-point attempts (175), good for 36th in the NCAA. 
  • She is second in three-pointers per game (2.48), also 61st in the NCAA. 
  • Her three-point percentage (35.4) ranks third in the OVC. 
  • Silvey had five three-pointers in her first half against TSU (Jan. 22).
  • This is the eighth time in her career she has had five three-pointers in a game. 

Syanne Mohamed
  • Syanne Mohamed was named Ohio Valley Conference Newcomer of the week Dec. 16. 
  • Mohammed ranks third in the OVC for rebounds per game (9.0).
  • Mohammed has been the rebounding leader for 18 games this season, grabbing a career-high 15 boards against Tennessee Tech (Jan. 24). 
  • Mohamed has had 216 rebounds this season, ranking third in the OVC and 51st in the NCAA. 
  • She has had 10 games this season with 10 or more rebounds. 
  • Mohamed is tied for eighth in the OVC in blocked shots per game (.92). 
  • She posted a career-high 17 points against UT Martin (Jan. 15), marking her first game as the scoring leader for the Cougars. 
  • Mohamed had her third career double double against SEMO (Feb. 12) with 12 points and 13 rebounds. 

Ava Gugliuzza
  • She ranks 11th in the OVC for three-point field goals made per game (1.58).
  • She had her first start for the Cougars at USI (Jan. 31), and had started every game since then. 
  • In three of her last four games Gugliuzza scored in double digits with her most recent of 10 points against SEMO (Feb. 12). 
  • Gugliuzza led the team with 13 points against USI shooting 3-9 from three-point range.
  • Gugliuzza recorded a career-high five three-pointers against Harris-Stowe (Dec. 14).
  • This was her second game of the season as the scoring leader. 
  • Gugliuzza scored nine points on three three-pointers against Morehead State (Jan. 29). 
 
Adebukola Akomolafe
  • Akomolafe is second on the team for total rebounds (131) and rebounds per game (5.5).
  • Akomolafe posted a career-high nine rebounds against Missouri Baptist (Nov. 3).
  • She also had a career-high 20 points against Indiana State (Nov. 19). 
  • Akomolafe recorded a career-high four steals against Eastern Illinois (Dec. 18). 

Kendal George
  • George made her season debut against USI (Jan. 1).
  • She appeared again against Lindenwood where she scored nine 
  • points on three three-pointers. 

Adriana Blazquez
  • Blazquez had a career-high 11 points against Lindenwood. 
  • Blazquez earned their first start for the Cougars against UT Martin (Jan. 15).
  • She had a career-high seven rebounds against Northern Illinois (Nov. 21) and Harris-Stowe (Dec. 14). 
  • She matched her career-high of two steals against SEMO (Feb. 12).

Sy'Rae Stemmons
  • Stemmons was a big part of the Cougar defense against Calumet College (Dec. 4) having six rebounds and three steals.
  • Stemmons earned her first start for the Cougars against UT Martin (Jan. 15).
  • She also had a career-high 13 points against Calumet College, marking her first game scoring in double digits.
