EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. – Chloe Koons collected a 6-2, 6-2 victory at No. 6 singles as SIUE women's tennis come from behind to defeat Bradley 4-3 at the Edwardsville Y Meyer Center.
Her triumph clinched a win for the 66ers made up purely of SIUE singles wins.
The 66ers dropped the doubles point early and found themselves down 2-0 after Bradley's Anna Belogliadova defeated SIUE's Jessica Li 6-2, 6-2 at No. 4 singles.
SIUE, now 4-1 overall, began its comeback at No. 2 singles with Margaux Guibal Britt providing a 6-1, 7-5 win. Paloma Hennicaux tied it up for the 66ers with her No. 5 singles triumph over Amber Sharp 6-3, 7-5.
Mariia Pukhina returned the lead to Bradley at No. 3 singles with a 7-6, 6-4 win over SIUE's Stefaniya Anikina.
The 66ers' Elena Palioura, playing for the first time as the team's No. 1 singles player, showed grit with a 4-6, 6-1, 6-2 win to once again even the score.
That set up Koons' match and the deciding point for the 66ers.
SIUE returns to action Sunday at the Edwardsville Y Meyer Center. SIUE faces Maryville with an 11 a.m. first serve.
