EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. – SIUE women's tennis improved to 5-1 for the season Sunday with a 7-0 triumph over Maryville at the Edwardsville Y Meyer Center.
After securing the doubles point, SIUE overpowered the Saints in singles with five straight-sets victories. No. 6 singles was a forfeit.
Margaux Guibal Britt led the Cougars at No. 1 singles with a 6-4, 6-4 win over Isabella Alvarez. Stefaniya Anikina earned a 6-2, 6-2 victory at No. 2 singles over Nazli Saka. Paloma Hennicaux bested Gemma Ricci at No. 3 singles 6-2, 6-0. Chloe Koons earned a 6-2, 6-3 win at No. 4 singles over Mira Vasileva. Mya Bowe grabbed a strong win, coming from behind in the second set and winning 7-6, 6-4.
SIUE won both of the contested doubles matches. Anikina and Guibal Britt were winners at No. 1 doubles 6-2 over Saka and Alvarez. Cydney Rogers and Mya Bowe helped the Cougars win the doubles point with a No. 2 doubles win over Ricci and Vasileva.
The Cougars next head north for a pair of road matches. SIUE faces Marquette in a 11 a.m. match on Feb. 21 and a 9 a.m. match at Chicago State on Feb. 22.
