YOUNGSVILLE, La. – SIUE softball dropped a pair of contests Saturday at Day Two of the Mardi Gras Mambo.
SIUE lost the opening game today 8-0 in five innings to Southeastern Louisiana and 7-3 in the nightcap to Louisiana Tech.
Kaylin Fahy recorded three hits on the day, including a 2-for-2 performance against Southeastern Louisiana. She is now third on the team in hitting with a .261 batting average.
Abby Harvell collected a pair of hits in the Louisiana Tech game and is now hitting .300 for the season.
The Cougars were in the midst of a pitcher's duel against Southeastern Louisiana. SIUE was down 1-0 headed to the bottom of the fifth when the Lions rallied for seven runs to close out the contest.
Mia Volpert took the loss for the Cougars.
In game two, Haley Strain went six innings in the circle for the Cougars and struck out a career-high 10. But the Lady Techsters chipped away late against the Cougars, scoring six of their seven runs over the final four innings.
SIUE scored its runs in the second, sixth and seventh innings. Raegan Duncan scored on a wild pitch in the second inning. Strain helped herself offensively with a sacrifice fly that scored Duncan again. Arissah Garza provided an RBI single in the seventh that brought home Fahy.
The Cougars' final game of the Mardi Gras Mambo is Sunday at 10 a.m. against Nicholls.
