CHICAGO - SIUE women's tennis jumped back on the winning track Sunday with a 7-0 victory over Chicago State at the H-F Racquet and Fitness Club.
SIUE lifted its record to 6-2 while Chicago State fell to 0-11. The Cougars next return home to face Saint Louis in a 2:30 p.m. match Friday at the Edwardsville Y Meyer Center.
"It was great to bounce back with a win after a tough, hard-fought loss yesterday at Marquette," said SIUE Head Coach
Adam Albertsen. "We hopefully can use this weekend as a learning experience and really get a jumpstart on the second half of the season."
The Cougars stepped up early for the doubles point as
Jessica Li and
Elena Palioura blanked Mackenzie King and Nikita Liyanage 6-0 at No. 2 doubles.
Stefaniya Anikina and
Margaux Guibal Britt bested Camila Sanchez and Karolina Skowronska 6-1 at No. 1 doubles.
Four SIUE players were victorious in straight sets with Palioura, LI, Anikina and
Chloe Koons all winning their matches. Emerson Matzger was victorious by opponent retirement at No. 6 singles. Guibal Britt closed out the dual with a three-set victory over Skowronska 6-4, 6-7, 10-6.
