SIUE Women's Tennis Blanks Chicago State 7-0

CHICAGO - SIUE women's tennis jumped back on the winning track Sunday with a 7-0 victory over Chicago State at the H-F Racquet and Fitness Club.

SIUE lifted its record to 6-2 while Chicago State fell to 0-11. The Cougars next return home to face Saint Louis in a 2:30 p.m. match Friday at the Edwardsville Y Meyer Center.

"It was great to bounce back with a win after a tough, hard-fought loss yesterday at Marquette," said SIUE Head Coach Adam Albertsen. "We hopefully can use this weekend as a learning experience and really get a jumpstart on the second half of the season."

The Cougars stepped up early for the doubles point as Jessica Li and Elena Palioura blanked Mackenzie King and Nikita Liyanage 6-0 at No. 2 doubles. Stefaniya Anikina and Margaux Guibal Britt bested Camila Sanchez and Karolina Skowronska 6-1 at No. 1 doubles.

Four SIUE players were victorious in straight sets with Palioura, LI, Anikina and Chloe Koons all winning their matches. Emerson Matzger was victorious by opponent retirement at No. 6 singles. Guibal Britt closed out the dual with a three-set victory over Skowronska 6-4, 6-7, 10-6.
