EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. – SIUE softball dropped a pair of Ohio Valley Conference games Saturday to Eastern Illinois but not without a charge in the bottom of the seventh of game two.
The Cougars fell 12-4 in five innings in game one and 6-5 in the nightcap.
SIUE was behind 6-3 in the bottom of the seventh of game two and worked a station-to-station lineup behind four straight singles from Raegan Duncan, Abby Harvell, Betsy Woodward and Jesslyn Stairs. The Cougars scored once on those consecutive hits and one more on a sacrifice fly by Aiden Barrera.
Eastern Illinois, now 13-16 overall and 8-0 in the OVC, brought in game one winner Rylan Glick to close out the game. She recorded a win and a save for the day.
SIUE dropped to 13-16 overall and 6-2 in the OVC. Mia Volpert took the loss in relief and is now 5-6.
The Panthers used a 10-run second inning to power past the Cougars in game one. Sophia Olman and Lexie Griffin homered for EIU.
The two teams play once more Sunday in a 12 pm contest at Cougar Field.
