EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. – SIUE softball dropped the final game of the series Sunday to Eastern Illinois 6-3 at Cougar Field.
The Cougars are now 13-17 overall with a 6-3 record in Ohio Valley Conference play. Eastern Illinois advanced to 9-0 in the OVC and 15-16 overall. SIUE next faces Missouri at home on Tuesday. Game time is 5 p.m.
Eastern Illinois and SIUE tied 1-1 in the first two innings, and the Panthers grabbed the lead with three runs in the third inning on RBIs from Abbi Hatton, Sophia Olman and Lexie Griffin.
SIUE's Jesslyn Stairs put the Cougars back in striking distance with an two-run opposite field home run that scored Betsy Woodward in the fourth inning.
EIU added two more runs in the seventh and held off the Cougars, which finished with five hits overall. Stairs led the team with two hits.
Rylan Gick went the distance for EIU and earned the win. McKayla Anderson, 2-2, took the loss for SIUE.
