SERIES STUFF: Tennessee Tech owns a 27-19 advantage in the series which dates back to 2010. SIUE is 9-9 in Edwardsville in the series. The Cougars won two of three in Cookeville, Tennessee last year and have won four of the last five meetings.
PLAYERS OF THE WEEK:
Terrick Thompson-Allen became the third SIUE player to garner OVC Player of the Week honors Monday. He was then tabbed as the National Co-Hitter of the Week by the NCBWA Tuesday. Josh Heyder won his first career OVC Player of the Week award March 16.
Ryan Niedzwiedz earned the award March 2. He also was named to Baseball America's Team of the Week March 3.
HOMER HAPPY: SIUE leads the OVC and ranks fourth in the NCAA with 50 home runs so far this season. The Cougars rank seventh in the country at 2.0 home runs per game. Niedzwiedz leads the league and ranks 13th nationally with 11 home runs. Thompson-Allen is third in the league and 45th in the NCAA with nine long balls.
In 2025, SIUE led the league with 77 home runs which was second most in the program's Division I history. The school record is 99 home runs in 2022.
STARTING NINE: The Cougars hit a team-record nine home runs Friday at Morehead State. SIUE hit 19 home runs in the the three-game weekend series with the Eagles.
COMEBACK COUGARS: SIUE has had two large comebacks in midweek games. The Cougars trailed 5-1 after an inning and a half last Tuesday against SIU Carbondale before coming back to win 16-6 in eight innings. SIUE was down 7-0 after the top of the first Feb. 24 against Saint Louis. then scored 17 unanswered runs to win 17-7 in seven innings. SIUE has five wins when the opponent scores first.
WALLACE WATCH LIST: Senior shortstop
Chase Bloomer was named to the Brooks Wallace Award Watch List for the third time in his career. The award honors college baseball's best shortstop.
EIGHT IS ENOUGH:
Mack Mitchell hit a pair of home runs, including his first career grand slam, Feb. 24 against Saint Louis and drove in eight runs-tying SIUE's single game record at the Division I level.
