SCHEDULE UPDATE: The two teams will play a single game Thursday beginning at 3 p.m. and a doubleheader Friday beginning with game one at 1 p.m.
LAST WEEK: SIUE won three of four last week, dropping a Tuesday contest at Saint Louis and then sweeping its second straight OVC series over Tennessee Tech.
START ME UP: The Cougars have started 6-0 in OVC play for the second time; doing it last in 2015. SIUE has never started an OVC season 7-0.
SERIES STUFF: SIUE owns a 55-46 lead in the all-time series which dates to 1977 when both schools were Division II. Since USI joined the OVC, the Screaming Eagles have a 5-4 edge in the series.
PLAYERS OF THE WEEK:
Terrick Thompson-Allen became the third SIUE player to garner OVC Player of the Week honors March 23. He was then tabbed as the National Co-Hitter of the Week by the NCBWA Marcg 24. Josh Heyder won his first career OVC Player of the Week award March 16.
Ryan Niedzwiedz earned the award March 2. He also was named to Baseball America's Team of the Week March 3.
HOMER HAPPY: SIUE leads the OVC and ranks 14th in the NCAA with 52 home runs so far this season. The Cougars rank 12th in the country at 1.86 home runs per game. Niedzwiedz leads the league and ranks 16th nationally with 12 home runs. Thompson-Allen and
Mack Mitchell are tied for fourth in the league and 70th in the NCAA with nine long balls. In 2025, SIUE led the league with 77 home runs which was second most in the program's Division I history. The school record is 99 home runs in 2022.
EDWARDSVILLE SLUGGERS: The Cougars rank 20th nationally in slugging percentage (.524). Niedzwiedz leads the OVC and is 35th nationally with a .752 slugging percentage. Heyder is fourth in the league (.705) and Thompson-Alen ranks fifth (.686).
