PEORIA, Ill. - SIUE softball next faces Lindenwood in a 7 p.m. contest at the Ohio Valley Conference Championships after dropping an 8-0 decision in the winner's bracket to top-seeded Eastern Illinois.
The Cougars, 29-28, face the Lions in an elimination game at the Louisville Slugger Complex. The winner of Friday's final game of the day moves on to face Eastern Illinois on championship Saturday.
Delayed due to weather and a nine-inning game preceding it, SIUE collected five hits against the Eastern Illinois.
Kaylin Fahy led the charge with two hits while
Juztyne Torres,
Gretchen Trello and
Abby Harvell added one hit apiece.
Eastern Illinois, winners of 14 straight games, recorded 11 hits against the Cougars. A five run-rally in the third inning provided the most confidence for the Panthers. An Abbi Hatton home run in the third powered the offense.
EIU's Karlie McKenzie and Bryanna French combined for the win.
Avery Arwood took the loss for the Cougars, her first in her last 10 outings.
Kiana Villa tossed the final five innings for SIUE and allowed two runs. Â
