EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. – SIUE volleyball earned its first two victories of the season in dominant fashion Friday, sweeping both Arkansas-Pine Bluff and Chicago State at home in the Cougar Classic.
The Cougars set the tone for the weekend from the start, claiming the opening set against Arkansas-Pine Bluff 25-7 and carrying that momentum throughout. SIUE then allowed just 35 points across the final two sets against the Golden Lions to complete the sweep.
SIUE then carried the strong play into their late-night matchup with Chicago State, recording 12 service aces. The total marks the most service aces in a match for the Cougars since Oct. 26, 2024.
Kennedy Pike and
Georgia Bresnahan led the charge offensively in both games, with each recording 10 or more kills in both matches. Defensively, it was a complete team effort, holding Arkansas-Pine Bluff to an attack percentage of -0.22 and Chicago State to 0.106.
Freshman
Charlotte Dudik also made her collegiate debut, recording three kills in one set of action.
The Cougars now look to build on their strong first day of the Cougar Classic, hosting Northern Illinois Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m.
