EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. – SIUE women's soccer and Indiana State battled to a 2-2 tie Sunday in nonconference play at Korte Stadium.
The Cougars, now 2-1-3 overall, held a 10-8 edge in shots against Indiana State, which stands at 3-1-3. The game started at 10 a.m. local time due to excessive heat.
Both teams were back and forth in the first 25 minutes of play before Carson Bohnenstiehl broke a scoreless time at 25:25 on a six-yard shot from MaryClaire Imig.
The two teams traded penalty kicks over the rest of the first half. Claire Nieroda connected for her third goal of the season on a PK at 30:20 while ISU's Addyson Warner scored on a OK at 43:03.
Indiana State would get the equalizer at 81:35 with a hard push on a goal from CharlieBlue Saunders. Tori Angelo provided the pass toward the front of the net from three yards out.
Sarah Bozeman and Baylor Lynch shared time in goal for SIUE and combined for three saves. Sofie Hansen finished with three saves for the Sycamores.
SIUE's next action is another Missouri Valley Conference opponent at SIU Carbondale. The Cougars take on the Salukis Thursday at 6 p.m. in Carbondale.
