Alaina Schlaefer, formerly Alaina Lacopo, enters her third year onDerek Burton's staff as SIUE women's soccer assistant coach.Schlaefer was a starting forward and a four-year letter winner atSoutheast Missouri State. She helped SEMO to Ohio ValleyChampionships in 2006 and 2007. The 2007 team was also the OhioValley's regular season champion, after finishing the conferenceseason undefeated. Schlaefer also led the Redhawks to two NCAAtournament appearances. She set records for career andsingle-season assists at SEMO, and is second all-time ingame-winning goals. She was nominated for the 2008 NCAA Woman ofthe Year award by SEMO. Schlaefer attended Triad High School and isa 2004 graduate. A four-year starter, she helped Triad make twoappearances at the state finals and was named to the All-State teamin 2003 and 2004. She also was selected as a St. LouisPost-Dispatch Scholar-Athlete in 2004. Since joining SIUE's women'ssoccer program as a graduate assistant, Schlaefer has been involvedin several areas of the program including all aspects of teamtraining with emphasis on goalkeepers, recruiting, coordinatingacademic programs, organizing fundraising and community serviceprojects, and serving as the co-director of the summer campsprogram. Schlaefer holds a bachelor's of science in secondaryeducation mathematics from Southeast Missouri State University. Sherecently completed her master's of business administration whileworking as the graduate assistant for the Cougars the past twoseasons. She is married to Scott Schlaefer. The couple resides inCollinsville.
