Click here toemail Holly Cox joined Head Coach Derek Burton's staff in July 2012and has helped lead the Cougars to consecutive appearances in theOhio Valley Conference Tournament semifinals in two seasons onstaff. Cox works closely with the Cougar defense, which has led the OVCin total goals allowed and goals against average each of the pasttwo seasons. As the goalkeeper trainer for the Cougars, Cox is responsiblefor developing goalkeeper Jennifer Pelley into one of the topkeepers in the OVC and two of the most successful seasons in schoolhistory. As a sophomore in 2013, Pelley led the OVC in goals againstaverage (0.73) which was good for 36th in the NCAA.Pelley also was second in the OVC in save percentage (.822). Shewas named as the OVC goalkeeper of the week three separate timesduring the year and earned All-OVC second team honors after theseason. During her freshman season, Pelley was named to the All-OVCsecond team and All-Newcomer team. During the year, she earnedGoalkeeper of the Week honors an OVC-record five times during her2012. Pelley's nine shutouts led the OVC and stand as thesecond-most in a single season in school history Cox came to SIUE after most recently serving as a graduateassistant at Southern Mississippi. Cox’s primaryresponsibility at Southern Miss was working with the Eagles’goalkeepers, but she was involved in various aspects of theprogram, including film breakdown, practice preparation andrecruiting. Cox also was involved in the Olympic Development Program,coaching in Hattiesburg, and Laurel, Miss. From 2004-2009 theLondon, England, native coached at the London Youth Games, helpingto coach her team to the gold medal in 2008. As a player, Cox started four seasons as a goalkeeper atSouthern Miss. She totaled 15 wins and seven shutouts in hercareer. She played more than 4,800 minutes in goal and captainedthe 2008 and 2009 Eagles teams. Cox also boasts internationalplaying experience, representing England at the Ballymena, NorthernIreland Tournament and against France at the U17 level. Shecompeted for England at the U19 level against Sweden. Cox received her master’s degree in physical education inspring 2012. In 2010, she earned her bachelor’s degree insports coaching and physical education. Both degrees are fromSouthern Mississippi. |
