Kevin Buhr opens his fourth season with the SIUE volleyballprogram in 2014.

At SIUE, Buhr coordinates the recruiting efforts for theCougars. On the court Buhr oversees the training of the setters andmiddle hitters.

Buhr helped develop 2013 Ohio Valley Conference Freshman of theYear Mallory Mangun, who became the first freshman setter to recordmore than 1,000 assists in a season. Mangun finished the year with1,222 set assists (9.78 per set).

The Cougars set the mark for the most Division I wins (14) in2013 and advanced to the OVC Tournament championship match in theirfirst-ever appearance at the event.

In 2012, SIUE's Kristen Torre and Leslie Lindsey led the Cougarsin hitting percentage with .264 each as freshmen. The duo weresecond and third, respectively, in blocks for the Cougars. The 2012season also saw the emergence of setter Kaitlyn O'Reilly whoaveraged 3.58 assists per set in limited action.

Buhr came to SIUE from the University of Kansas where he was avolunteer assistant coach. At Kansas, Buhr was the summer campcoordinator, director of Jayhawk Juniors Youth clinics and league,director of travel, and worked closely with the Jayhawk Libero anddefensive specialists. While at Kansas, libero Melissa Mandabroke the all-time dig record in her final season with theJayhawks. 

"His work ethic, contagious energy, and knowledge of the gameare a tremendous asset to Cougar Volleyball," said SIUE Head CoachLeah Johnson. Buhr spent three seasons on the sidelines withthe Jayhawks.

He has coaching experience in numerous areas, including thedevelopment of defensive specialists and defensive scouting ofopponents. Previously a head coach for the Lawrence MAVS 16’sGold team in Lawrence, Kan., for the 2009 season, LightningVolleyball Club in Eagle, Colo., from 2006 to 2008, and he was anassistant coach for Division III Millsaps College in Jackson,Miss., in 2005. Buhr served as a volunteer with Missouri StateVolleyball from 2000 to 2003.

He has extensive summer camp experience working for such summerprograms as Alabama, Colorado State, Florida State, and Kansas. Heearned a bachelor's degree in physical education and from MissouriState in 2003. Buhr also has a Masters in exercise science from theUniversity of Kansas. In spring of 2013 Buhr was part of theresearch project that was published in the Journal of strength andconditioning research.

Buhr is married to Emily Buhr and have one daughter, Sonya. Theyreside in Edwardsville.
