Cougars Slip Past UMSL

         After dropping game one 30-20, the Southern Illinois University Edwardsville volleyball team found its groove and won the next three games 30-24, 30-28 and 30-27 in route to a 3-1 victory over Missouri-St. Louis Wednesday night.
         It was the third straight victory for the Cougars. They now sit at 19-9 overall and 9-3 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference.
         Jennifer Trame (Highland) led the Cougars with 14 kills and 14 digs. Heather Bonde (Millstadt), Andrea Voss (St. Rose) and Kindra Westendorf (Effingham) each contributed 11 kills.
         SIUE's defense held Missouri-St. Louis to a .197 hitting percentage. Anchoring the defense was Trame, along with Jenny Franklin (LaSalle) with 11 digs and Amanda Wulfe (Vacaville, Calif.) who added 10.
         Erica Schuette (St. Charles, Mo.) registered 45 assists.
         Kathryn Freeman led UMSL (12-13, 3-9) offensively with 15 kills. Liz Blair led the Riverwomen with 18 digs.
         The Cougars now enter their final weekend of conference play, as they travel to Southern Indiana for a Friday match, then to Kentucky Wesleyan for a Saturday match. Currently, SIUE is a game behind Southern Indiana in the tight GLVC green division standings.
