Voss Collects Career Kill 1,000

Southern Illinois University Edwardsville senior middle hitter (St. Rose), who was named to the All-Tournament team at the Rockhurst Invitational this past weekend, recorded her 1,000th career kill in the match against Rockhurst. She is the fourth Cougar to reach such a milestone.
         "Andrea played well," Coach Todd Gober said. "She was able to do well even though other teams were keying on her. I was pleased she was able to do that during the first weekend of the season."
         Voss led the team with 45 kills on the weekend and posted a .324 hitting percentage as the Cougars finished with wins over Drury, Dallas Baptist and Southwest Baptist. Kindra Westendorf (Effingham) had a solid weekend with 27 kills while Heather Bonde (Millstadt) had 26 in the four matches. Freshman libero Beth DeGreeff (St. Louis) collected a team-high 46 digs in the tournament.
         "Overall I was happy with our play," Gober said. "It was a good chance for us to grow as a team. We came out of the tournament 3-1, and it is still early. This is an indication of what the team will ultimately be able to accomplish."
         The SIUE volleyball team once again will be on the road this weekend, this time to Charleston, W.V., for the University of Charleston Tournament.
         SIUE will play Indiana (Pa.) and Belmont Abbey on Friday and will finish with matches against Charleston and West Virginia Wesleyan on Saturday.
         "This will be a huge weekend for us," Coach Todd Gober said. "We need to go in and win all four."
         Indiana (Pa.), who has started the season 4-0, should be a test for the Cougars. "Indiana is a top team in their region," Gober said. "It will be a good match for us."
         SIUE's lone loss of the weekend was to 11th-ranked Rockhurst in three games.
