SIUE Cruises in a Pair of Wins

Southern Illinois University Edwardsville volleyball improved to 5-1 with a pair of convincing victories over Indiana (Pa.) and Belmont Abbey at the Charleston (W.V.) Tournament on Friday.
         SIUE picked up a record-breaking performance from senior middle hitter Andrea Voss against Belmont Abbey. She recorded 11 kills on 12 attacks with no errors for a school record .917 hitting percentage.
         The Cougars routed Belmont Abbey 30-12, 30-10, 30-17. SIUE connected on 46 kills and finished with a .384 hitting percentage, the 10th best single-game mark in school history.
         Voss overshadowed a strong performance from sophomore outside hitter Allison Buss, who picked up 10 kills with one error and 22 attacks for a .409 hitting percentage.
         SIUE defeated Indiana (Pa.) earlier in the day 30-21, 30-13, 30-17. Indiana (Pa.), which advanced to the Sweet Sixteen in last year's NCAA Tournament, were outmatched by the Cougars.
         Voss and Heather Bonde led SIUE with 13 kills each. SIUE smacked 47 kills in the match and were equally as strong on defense with 15 team blocks, including seven from Voss.
         SIUE now turns to a pair of regional matches on Saturday, facing host Charleston at noon and West Virginia Wesleyan at 4 p.m.
