Cougars Eclipse 20-Win Mark

         ST. LOUIS, Mo. -- Southern Illinois University Edwardsville volleyball hit the 20-win mark for the seventh consecutive season with a five-game triumph at Missouri-St. Louis.
         The Cougars had to claw and scratch their way past the Tritons 27-30, 30-22, 30-19, 20-30, 15-8.
         SIUE, ranked No. 17 in the latest AVCA/NCAA Division II national poll, improved to 20-5 overall and 13-2 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. The Cougars, who have won six straight matches, opened up a 3 1/2 match lead over idle second-place Rockhurst in the GLVC West Division.
         The Cougars next face No. 6-ranked Truman State Tuesday in a 7 p.m. match at the Vadalabene Center. Truman State enters the match with a 26-4 record.
         On Saturday, SIUE started slow with Missouri-St. Louis catching fire with 20 kills in game one.
         The Cougars rallied to win games two and three. In game four, SIUE committed 10 attack errors, sending the match to game five.
         SIUE, which finished with 100 digs, played strong defense in game five, holding UMSL to a .000 hitting percentage in the final frame.
         Kelsey Hubert led four SIUE players in double figure kills with 17. Emily Rahn and Kate Hofeldt followed closely with 16 and 15, respctively. Samanatha Schulte added 11.
         SIUE's Mallory Clements turned in another strong performance at setter with nine kills, 59 assists and a team-high 22 digs.
         Christy Trame and Claudia Medina powered the offense for UMSL. Trame recorded a game-high 19 kills and nine blocks. Medina finished with 18 kills and three service aces.
         SIUE posted an above-average .236 for the match and outslugged UMSL 76-64 in kills.
