No. 12 Cougars Pound Rockhurst

         EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. -- Freshman Sydney Winslow recorded a career-high 14 kills as No. 12-ranked Southern Illinois University Edwardsville defeated Rockhurst 31-29, 30-24, 30-25 in college volleyball action.
          SIUE won its 10th consecutive match Friday at the Vadalabene Center, improving its overall record to 24-5 and 16-2 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. Rockhurst fell to 20-11 and 12-6 in the GLVC.
          The Cougars finished with 62 kills in the three-game match with five different hitters recording double figures in kills. Behind Winslow's 14 was Emily Rahn with 12, Kate Hofeldt with 11, Kelsey Hubert with 10 and Samantha Schulte with 10. SIUE setter Mallory Clements completed the match with 52 assists.
          Winslow, of Farmington, Mo., had 11 consecutive kills at one point in the match, but the Cougars had to come from behind in game one. SIUE was down by five points midway through game one and stole the momentum from Rockhurst with a 31-29 win.
          Rockhurst's Audrey Boese led the Hawks with 10 kills. The Hawks were held to a .145 hitting percentage.
          Both teams also blocked well in the match. Rachel Fowler led Rockhurst with six blocks, but SIUE's Schulte led all players with 10. SIUE edged Rockhurst in blocks 12-11.
          SIUE has a day off before Sunday's regular season finale at 1 p.m. against Drury.
