Illinois Powers Past Cougars

         CHAMPAIGN, Ill. - No. 23-ranked Illinois flexed its muscles Friday night with a 25-18, 25-13, 25-13 victory over Southern Illinois University Edwardsville in college volleyball.
         SIUE, 2-5, couldn't overcome a strong Illinois offense that pumped out 45 kills in the three sets. Illinois' Laura DeBruler led her team with 13 kills.
         The Cougars won the first two points of the match on an attack error from the Illini's Johannah Banger and a killer by SIUE outside hitter Emily Rahn. With set one tied 4-4, Illinois went on a 10-2 run and distanced itself from the Cougars.
         Sydney Winslow provided a team-leading seven kills for the Cougars. SIUE collected 19 kills in the match.
         Illinois, who hold a 9-2 record, went on an 8-1 run in set two and pushed past the Cougars. Illinois hit .306 for the match and held SIUE to a .032 hitting percentage.
