EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. - A 26-10 second half run by Morehead State sealed an 83-64 victory over Southern Illinois University Edwardsville in men's basketball at the Vadalabene Center Sunday evening.

Cornelius Chatt pulled down an offensive rebound then converted the put-back to make the score 57-54 with 9:11 to play in the game before the Eagles began their run. Morehead State, 3-3, scored the next 10 points to extend its lead to 13 with 6:30 to play.

Kenneth Faried and Demonte Harper combined to score eight of the 10 points. Harper led the way for Morehead State pouring in a career-high 35 points. Faried, the reigning OVC Player of the Year, scored 25, and added 20 rebounds. The 20-board effort ties the Vadalabene Center record, set by SIUE's Tony Keys in 1994.

"Our guys came out much better tonight," SIUE head coach Lennox Forrester said. "Give our guys credit the way they bounced back after Friday (loss at Iowa)."

The two teams played a back-and-forth game in the first half, with the lead changing 10 times in the first period. The score was tied on six different occasions. SIUE, 1-6, had as much as a five point lead with 8:01 to play following a jumper from David Boarden.

Boarden finished with a career-high 17 points, including 13 in the first half.

"David came out playing very well tonight," Forrester said. "He was scoring, but also was rebounding. He gave us some defensive pressure also."

Morehead State led 39-33 at halftime, and never trailed in the second half.

Corey Wickware and Gerald Jones both scored in double figures for the Cougars. Wickware scored 15 on 4 of 10 shooting from the floor, and a 5 of 7 night from the free throw line.

Jones scored 10 in his Cougar debut. He was 8 of 13 from the foul line. Michael Messer and Chatt each added eight for the Cougars. Messer added a team-high five rebounds.

The Cougars tied a season-high, using eight players off the bench. The SIUE bench outscored that of Morehead State's 20-6.

"You never know who is going to respond for you that night," Forrester said. "We're going to give guys a chance."

The Cougars have now lost three straight, and will travel to Cookesville, Tenn., for a Wednesday game at Tennessee Tech. Tipoff is scheduled for 6 p.m.
