CARBONDALE, Ill. - Southern Illinois Carbondale won the battle of sister schools Sunday with a 6-1 triumph over SIUE in women's college tennis.

The Cougars, 1-6, earned a victory at No. 5 singles. Kelsey Laird earned a straight sets victory over Jessica Flannery 6-2, 7-6 (7-4).

Carli Connors nearly broke through at No. 1 singles. Melanie Delsart collected a pair of tiebreaker winners with a 7-6 (7-3), 7-6 (7-5) victory over Connors.

The Salukis, 1-3, won all three doubles matches, including a thrilling tiebreaker at No. 3 doubles. Flannery and Jennifer Dien edged Laird and Laura Horning 9-8, (10-5).
