DAYTON, Ohio - For a second straight year, Jack Twellman has scored the golden goal for SIUE in a win over Dayton.

Twellman hit the lower right corner of the net from 25 yards out at 95:28 to give the Cougars a 1-0 victory over the Flyers at Baujan Field. Twellman, who scored his team-leading seventh goal of the season, also recorded the game winner in last season's 3-2 victory over Dayton in the SIUE Men's Soccer Classic at Korte Stadium.

"He cut across the inside of the field and then hit a laser from 25 yards out," said SIUE Head Coach Kevin Kalish. "He (Jack) has been coming up big for us. To have seven goals already at this point in the season is a testament to his hard work."

The Cougars improved to 6-2-2 and have now won three straight games. SIUE looks to extend its winning streak Tuesday at Cincinnati. The first touch is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET against the Bearcats.

SIUE, which was ranked in the top 20 in the nation in goals scored as the week started, was persistent on offense against Dayton, 1-9. The Cougars peppered Dayton goalkeeper Chris Najeway with 24 shots, including five from Twellman and four each from Matt Polster, Peter Kelly, and Derek Huffman.

Kalish said the Cougars controlled the pace of play and did well with its ball circulation all game. Dayton made it more difficult for the Cougars in the second half, Kalish noted, by adjusting their defense. Still, the Cougars were able to get the decision.

"It was one of our best performances of the season," Kalish said. The Cougar head coach said he has seen his team improve over the past several games. SIUE have been able to keep their concentration level high for longer periods of time.

Saturday's shutout was the second of the season for the Cougars and the second for goalkeeper Scott Meyer. He made one first-half save and lowered his goals against average to 1.03.

"I thought our entire team was solid defensively tonight," Kalish said.
