EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. – SIUE placed four runners in the top seven Saturday to win the 2013 SIUE John Flamer Invite.
"It was a good day," said SIUE Head Coach Eileen McAllister. "The storms held off which we were thankful about."
Nick Moore led SIUE's contingent with a second-place finish in a time of 25 minutes, 45.72 seconds on the 8,000-meter course. He was edged out in the final 100 meters by Saint's Joseph's Logan Barrett (25:42.26) for the individual title.
Clint Kleim (26:31.80), Scott Woodard (26:38.14), and freshman Keith Meyer (26:38.46) took fifth, sixth, and seventh, respectively, for the Cougars.
"Nick and Clint look well on the men's side. Keith continues to move up and battle for that spot. As a group we looked good," McAllister said.
Light rain fell on SIUE's on-campus cross country course in the middle of the race. McAllister said it wasn't a problem for any of the competitors.
"If anything, it helped cool things off a bit," said McAllister. "The fact that we had PRs in humidity like this -- they should be proud."
Other SIUE finishers for the Cougars were Luke Padesky (27:09.74), Evan Morgeson (27:24.23), and Noah Isbell (28:06.61).
SIUE won te head-to-head team matchup with Bradley 16-45.
"We have a couple of weeks before we go up to Bradley for the biggest meet of the year for us so far," McAllister said. The Cougars will travel to Peoria, Ill., Oct. 18th for the Bradley "Pink" Classic.
