EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. – SIUE men's cross country claimed its third team title of the year at the John Flamer Invitational.
"It's a good rebound from last weekend, and we made a lot of progress," said Head Coach Eileen McAllister.
SIUE finished first with a score of 59. Trailing SIUE was Wayne State (62), Washington University – St. Louis (65), St. Joseph's (99), DePaul (126), Missouri (135), and Illinois club team (207).
Crossing the finish line first for the Cougars and fourth overall was junior Clint Kliem with a time of 25:23.49. Following Kliem was sophomore Keith Meyer (25:39.02) in fifth, junior Nick Moore (25:47.28) in eighth, junior Scott Woodard (25:56.49) in 12th, and senior Luke Padesky (26:50.01) in 30th.
Woodard, Meyer, freshman Tyler Owens (26:51.59), and freshman Anthony Holshouser (27:10.85) all recorded overall personal records at the race.
"We're still working on closing our gap between one through seven," said McAllister. "We're still young, and the freshman are new to running an 8K, but they are progressing and working on closing that gap."
The race was the last home race for senior Padesky.
"It was a great atmosphere, and we're happy to have so many fans to come and support us. The kids responded well to that," said McAllister.
The Cougars next race is the Bradley Pink Classic Friday, Oct. 17.
