Box Score EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. – SIUE women's tennis lost a close 4-3 match to Morehead State in the last regular season match of the year.
The Cougars fell to 7-3 and earned a No. 4 seed for next week's Ohio Valley Conference tournament in Nashville, Tennessee.
Morehead State improves to 8-2, securing the No. 3 seed for the tournament.
"We can't hang our heads after having a successful conference season," said Head Coach Amanda Pratzel. "We also can't be content because we have a new season starting next week."
Kali Donner/Mia Frogner earned a win at the No. 1 doubles spot along with Lexi Aranda/Sierra Halverson at the No. 2 position.
Monique Krutak remained undefeated at the No. 3 singles position throughout the conference season, going a perfect 10-0 in OVC play with a 6-2, 6-1 victory over Dominique McLean. The win was Krutak's 12th consecutive victory.
Also earning a point for SIUE was Mia Frogner at the No. 2 spot, defeating Ayaka Terashi in three sets. After losing the first set 6-0, she came back to win the last two sets 7-5 and 6-2.
The Cougars face fifth-seeded Eastern Illinois Friday at 10 a.m. in the first round of the OVC Tournament. All matches will be held in the Centennial Sportsplex.
"We're going to focus on staying positive and becoming more confident leading into Friday's conference tournament match," said Pratzel.
